Send end-to-end encrypted messages to any peer on the network. No servers store your conversations. The first message to a new contact passes through a bootnode as ciphertext; from then on your nodes hold a direct connection and messages travel straight between them.
Make encrypted audio and video calls peer-to-peer using WebRTC, with media secured by DTLS-SRTP. Calls connect directly where the network allows; on restrictive networks media relays through a TURN server so the call still connects.
Browse the decentralized web straight from the app. Sites are served peer-to-peer between nodes — no DNS, no hosting providers, and no central search engine deciding what you can reach.
Your messages never touch a corporate server. The network runs on libp2p and community-run bootnodes — which relay your traffic but cannot read it, because it is encrypted end to end before it leaves your device.
Your Peer ID is generated on your device and is cryptographically yours — no email, no phone number, no sign-ups. Add a .chat domain later if you want a memorable name.
Chat and browse the P2P web with no gatekeepers. Sites are served by the nodes running them, and anyone can operate the infrastructure — so there is no company to pressure and no single host to take offline.
Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted between devices, and unencrypted messages are refused rather than shown. Even the relays that pass traffic along cannot read it.
ChatNode has no company servers — but a peer-to-peer network still needs somewhere to start. Bootnodes are ordinary ChatNode instances, run by the community, that help other peers meet and stay connected. More bootnodes means more paths through the network, and no single point anyone can switch off.
A bootnode runs the same ChatNode you already downloaded, just in bootnode mode — on a machine that stays online with a public address. A full guide is on its way.
